Who We Are
Go Fund Bean's mission is to support, uplift, and defend the hourly coffee worker. When we started in mid-March of 2020, at the outset of COVID-19, we thought that the stay-at-home mandates would be short-lived. As the pandemic worsened and many coffee workers were furloughed or let go from their jobs, we found that we were uniquely positioned to help them. Springing into action, we created a Patreon to better engage with our community and find out what their needs were while also raising funds to cover the initial costs of forming a nonprofit. We started our first and flagship program, GFB Grants, in September of 2020, giving out $11,500 during our first grant cycle and continuing to support hourly coffee workers through need-based grants quarterly. We've also successfully launched our Stay Grounded Initiative, which provides mental health care for hourly coffee workers who otherwise would not be able to afford it; Bean Development, our monthly professional development classes; and Calibration Notes, our monthly series about topics in and around coffee.
Our plan to continue our support of the hourly coffee worker is an ambitious one. We will expand our current Grants program to try and help more people as they are forced into a post-pandemic world with little support from their companies or government agencies. We're expanding the Stay Grounded Initiative, taking a more holistic approach to mental health by adding mindfulness education, yoga programs, and extending the length of the one-on-one therapy from 3 to 6 months. We also have a slate of new programs we're launching, including Bean for Bean, our mentorship program, and Emergency Response, a rapid action fund to support coffee workers faced with a natural disaster.
Through our Grants program, the Stay Grounded Initiative, and Bean Development, we have been able to help to fulfill our mission during the nightmare of 2020. Moving forward into 2021 and beyond, we are excited to continue with new programs, such as Bean for Bean and Emergency Response, and extend the boundaries of the Stay Grounded Initiative.
